On a warm Wednesday evening in June, 70 members of Gate One descended on Castello di Ristonchi at sunset, prepared to conquer our 2019/20 business plan.
The Annual Gateaway is all about three things: linking the past, present and future, connecting as people and creating joint stories and landing our next year’s plan. Since the venue was in the remote Tuscan hills, the theme was Unplugged with a focus on our renaissance – a time for significant creativity, growth and development.
Sessions kicked off with a business performance update in the style of a Richard Scarry book and a human-formed Gate One clock illustrating how our business has grown year by year over the last six years. Not to mention Tim Phillips – Managing Partner – jumping in the pool to discuss our three-year growth strategy, which incorporated a series of loosely relevant inflatable pool toys as well as the team throwing ping pong balls at him. I think some of us enjoyed that part a little too much…
We also painted our sector plans in true Renaissance style, were energised by the in-flight Incubator companies and had marketplace stalls where we learnt about Brexit, Victoria Beckham, how to deliver constructive feedback, leadership utopia, and much more. Led by our inspirational Executive Committee, we built the business plan for 2019/20, with all grades having input.
Alongside the workshops, we had the opportunity to connect with one another by pizza making and relaxing by the pool. Plus the Gate One awards ceremony and annual costume party on Thursday evening. The weekend activities included the annual cycle club, river trekking, kayaking, wine tasting and a trip to Florence.
Ristonchi is a magical place and was the perfect inspirational backdrop to our business planning! We have all returned from the Gateaway with a greater sense of camaraderie (if it were possible), shared ownership of our strategy and plan for the year ahead and a real sense of pride in what we have achieved so far.
