Gate One is delighted to announce the appointment of Umbar Shakir as its Digital Lead
As Gate One continues to build on its industry-leading digital strategy, delivery and transformation services, Umbar’s extensive and exciting digital experience will be invaluable to our future and that of our clients. Her new role further enhances Gate One’s credentials in digital transformation, which have grown significantly over the last few years.
Umbar interviewed the founders of Amazon, eBay and Paypal about how the internet would shift traditional operating models for her university dissertation in 1999. Ever since she has had a passion for all things technology and digital. She has 17 exciting years of experience in digital, working on high profile projects that have touched all our lives, including BBC iPlayer, Sky Plus, Direct.gov and getting your tax disc online. Umbar has also worked on e-Health strategies in the Middle East and advised on the use of digital to combat corruption in South Asia.
Having previously worked at PwC, IBM, PA Consulting and Moorhouse, Umbar has delivered end to end digital transformation in a wide range of clients, with a strong focus on strategy, operating model transformation and technology programme delivery.
A passion for making digital count
For the last five years Umbar has been helping Gate One’s clients navigate their digital choices. Amongst many other projects, she has defined digital and customer experience (CX) strategies, implemented CRM and cloud technologies using scaled Agile and programme directed major digital transformations for businesses in the public, travel and other sectors.
She is passionate about digital and its power to help companies and their customers discover new ways of doing business and living their lives. “Too many organisations miss a trick when it comes to digital,” says Umbar. “They focus on incremental technology, channel or process improvements, rather than re-imagining a whole new way of doing business.”
“The best way to harness the power of digital is to focus on improving human experiences. We dare our clients to dream big and we partner with them to deliver pragmatic and lasting change and transformation. Importantly, we bring digital expertise and core consulting skills together in a single consultant.”
David Holliday, partner, said, “Over the last five years many of Gate One’s clients have benefited from Umbar’s vision and passion for what is possible digitally, and her drive and creativity to make it happen. I am delighted she is joining the Gate One leadership team and look forward to Umbar taking our digital offering from strength to strength.”
